Why Emerging Managers?
Venture capital is defined by its best outcomes, and those outcomes increasingly come from smaller, focused funds. Carta’s 2025 data (opens in a new tab) on more than 2,000 US venture funds shows that the top-performing funds under $100M consistently outpace the top-performers among larger funds. Inuksuk Ventures pairs that structural advantage with a team that has spent decades in the industry it invests in.
Fund Thesis
Inuksuk Ventures invests in ambitious Pre-seed to Series A companies whose passionate founders are pioneering health and life science innovations potentially changing the standard of care with a global footprint.
How we find deals
We find the strongest companies before they reach the open market, because we are already part of the communities where they start. Our team has spent decades inside the international research community and has served more than 150 biopharma firms along the way. We help lead the institutions where new science takes shape: we are benefactors of the Duey Biomedical Engineering Center at West Chester University, members of the Leadership Council at The Wistar Institute, and organizers of the Angel Venture Fair & Expo.
How we diligence
We evaluate founders and their companies with a three-step process we call Trail, Traverse, and Threshold.
Trail
Our initial pre-screen of companies is an automated congruity report created by our Venture Analysts ensuring the startup is a perfect portfolio fit for our firm’s investment thesis, our team has domain knowledge or expertise, the risk-to-reward ratio fits our internal tolerance, and the applying company has value differentiation in the competitive landscape.
Traverse
Traverse is our secondary screen, an evaluation system built in-house. Every company that clears the Trail is scored on 23 factors across seven weighted dimensions, including the benefit to patients, the risk profile, and the founding team, and adjusted for its likely path through the FDA and on to payers. Each claim in the company’s materials is marked as supported, vague, or missing. The gaps become our questions for the founders, and how they answer, with evidence and against what they promised before, tells us as much about the team as the science. Every change to a score is logged with its source and reason.
Threshold
The final step of the Inuksuk Diligence process is the “Threshold”, consisting of our 10-step Due Diligence Checklist and Data Room investigation. This formulaic and document-driven process ensures the company is investable and has not made any material misrepresentations. It is concluded by the convening of an Investment Committee Meeting and Investment Memorandum.
